» Zom-Zom's: Is anyone aware of the economic state of video game companies?
They’re going down the tubes.
Recently the only video game companies that have been doing well are the ones who sell shooters (i.e. Bungie) while everything else is going downhill.EA Games has shut down many of its divisions, the only games they’re selling are The Sims and Tekken. Namco, Square…
AjPitts: I think the downfall of RPGs as of late has been a result of them trying to be something that they are not. They try to be too cinematic and forget about writing engaging storyline. Final Fantasy 7,8, and 9 easily rank in my top ten, but I’d have to say, I did not have a very good time playing watching FF13. Why is Square-Enix so afraid of real turn based battle systems where strategy and preparation play a key role. In FF12, I could just set my gambits and run into everybody. I think they need to return to their roots. Only then will they make a comeback.
Oh yeah, I can’t be the only one who misses reading too. This seemed to allow characters to develop in your head (similiar to reading a book). With every line being voice acted, there is no room left for imagination… which is the hallmark of what makes made RPGs great.
