The Singularity is Near

Ray Kurzweil has predicted that by 2045 our current technological trajectory will reach a crescendo and we will hit what has been called the ‘Singularity’.  Essentially, this means that when computers become slightly more intelligent than humans, they will have the ability to improve themselves.  These “enhanced versions of themselves” can, in turn, improve upon themselves again and again.  The pace of this change will occur so fast that it would be impossible to keep up with.  Predicting exactly what will happen after this is hard to do, but Kurzweil believes human immortality will be one of the side effects.  To learn more, check out this recent article in Time Magazine.
